ten random facts about me

I consider myself tagged by the Minnesota Mom in her nice comment on my Tomie post.

1. I have 3 older sisters who all occupied the same womb as me, but each more than 10 years before me. Since our mother passed away at age 38 from a stroke and Dad became ill, I was adopted by a whole new family at age 9. I have a brother who is 11 months and 19 days older than me. Coincidentally, my adoptive parents were older and were the same ages as my genetic parents. All of my siblings came to our wedding. I feel like I have been blessed with two families. I do not let anyone call my birth family my "real" family. They are all very "real" to me.

2. I am exactly 19 hours older than my husband. He was born (2 weeks over due) during the super bowl on the east coast. I was born the previous evening in California, but I was quite tiny 5lbs 2oz. So I sometimes tease him that since his conception had to have occurred before mine, he is technically older.

3. I won our Junior High spelling bee in 8th grade. That's my 15 minutes of fame. I won when the runner up misspelled Beachcomber. I still think he let me win. What a gentleman. At the State Bee, I lost on the word, antiquate. I have probably found a way to use that word in a sentence at least once a week since then.

4. I saw Andy Warhol walking down Madison Avenue when I went to New York City, 20 years ago this very day. He was wearing a polaroid instant camera around his neck. I said to my friend "Wow, that person looks just like Andy Warhol!" She replied: "That's because it is Andy Warhol."

5. My favorite ice cream flavor is peppermint stick.

6. My husband says that I don't deserve to drink coffee because I like a little coffee with my milk and sugar. He never complains, though, when I share a white chocolate mocha with him. hmmmm...

7. I can sleep through a war. I even
grind my teeth when I sleep. If our children wake in the night, my husband hears them first. The only exception is when I had nursing infants.. if they wanted to nurse in the night, I guess I did it automatically. In the morning, I had no idea how many times or for how long the baby nursed, but often my husband would tell me!

8. I have only been to Canada and Mexico, but have never left this continent.. well unless a Jamaican honeymoon counts? I long to visit Italy, England and France... someday, God willing.

9. My favorite fragrance is Angel by Thierry Mugler. I love the way my babies smell when I wear it.

10. I cannot drive a standard transmission. Only an automatic. I tried, but was too frustrated with the stalling.

Thank you for posting this list. I so appreciate getting to know you.

Reading about your love for both your families is very moving and beautiful. I am saying a prayer right now for your dear mother.
